Special birthday

The children of Mary Colluci are putting together an 80th birthday celebration with an

800 Number to call in and wish her a Happy Birthday. You can leave a message regarding

a special memory or just a good old Happy Birthday.

********************

They ask you to call 877-687-7845 and enter invitation code # 101976. This would not cost you anything and would be a wonderful surprise. The cut off for the recording doesn't give you much time as we only have until Tuesday June 1. If you wish to send a greeting, she would enjoy it.

************************

The family will play back these voice mails the day of her 80th birthday party.

**************

What a wonderful idea if you wish to send her a greeting.

The family of Frank, Cathy, Terry and Mike wish to thank everyone for caring.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Happy Birthday Mary from your friends in Lakewood Village.
O That wonderful rain.
Yes that rain came this morning and we all waited patiently to see if we could still have our long planned Memorial Day Picnic. And yes! as the saying goes, it will come another day.
The Village people just kept coming in to our beautifully decorated and cool clubhouse with their hands loaded with such lovely dishes of wonderful aromatic foods.
The group of Veterans were all honored for their contributions to our country and our freedom. We never knew we had so many of our neighbors who had given so much of their time for all of us. There were a few late comers that we didn't get a picture but we still are proud of the entire group or as we in the Village say: Our Family.
We want to acknowledge the Social Club for all the planning, grilling, setting up and cleaning up. President John let us know that they were more than happy to do this for us and we want him to know we appreciated the time and energy that they put forth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank You for letting us spend the day with such BRAVE people.

In Honor

A National Moment of Remembrance On Memorial Day

That poem about where “poppies blow”
And, “the crosses, row on row”
Still rings true, these ninety years
After written, still brings tears.

We still have Dead, “amid the guns”
And lose our young and our loved ones
Those who lived, “short days ago”
Who, “felt dawn, saw sunset glow”.

In Flanders Fields, “the poppy red”
Still grow near where the blood was bled
They, “Take up our quarrel with the foe”
And still die for Freedoms that we know.

They pass, “The torch” to, “hold it high”
And not, “break the faith wit us who die”
For they, “shall not sleep, though poppies grow”
Beneath all those, “crosses, row on row”
In Flanders Fields.

Memorial Day Celebration

This week-end we will be recognizing our service people who have served in our armed forces for our freedom

There will be a picnic hosted by your Village Social Club over by our beautiful pool. There will be tables for the ones who wish to sit and watch the young ones play.
The raising of our stars and strips will start the ceremony before we get to the fun. Once again the Village Social Club will grill those famous hamburgers and hot dogs so we all will be bringing a side dish to share and pile on to our plates.
Everyone in the Village is invited to come on Sunday May 30th at NOON to enjoy a few hours of visiting with your neighbors. Lets let our Veterans know that we appreciate all they have done for us.

*****

Arrangements have been made for Reinhold (Ron) Scherrer.
*****
St. John's the Cross will host the ceremony with a mass on Thursday, May 27, 2010 at
10:30 a.m.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Ron ,as we all knew him, had joined the U.S. Army in 1940 and was a para-trooper.
While home on leave in 1943, Ron had married his long time sweetheart, Eleanor.
He is the father to four children.
Ronald, Thomas, Dennis and Marianne.
There are 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren..
After the service, Ron went to work for Michigan Bell. He retired in 1981 and soon
moved to our Village (29 years).
~~~~~~
Ron was active in all aspects of the maintenance around our Village and knew where
everything was. He was seen riding around on a scooter of some kind for many years.
~~~~~
We will miss not seeing him scooting up and down the lanes here to visit with some of his
old buddies. I know the buddies will miss him and know that he is finally somewhere
without pain.
~~~~~
Our sympathies lie with Eleanor and his wonderful family who will be around to help
their mother adjust and we know she will do what she can.
****
After the ceremony at the church, there will be a light lunch in our own Village
Clubhouse. If you wish to stop over and visit with the family, they will be there
from 11:45 to 12:45..
*****
Our deepest thanks to the family for letting us know Ron.

Recap of the week.

Coffee hour continued Tuesday with a dozen or so dedicated coffee and donut fans.

Pat and Bo want to continue serving coffee on Tues. if enough interest is shown. Lets all help out and come out at 9 this Tues to show support. Thanks guys.

****************************

We still have several very ill people here in our community that we wish to send our prayers and good wishes. Ron S. is now resting as well as can be expected. His daughter, Maryann is here from Ohio to help out her brothers, Thomas and Dennis. We also have another veteran Villager home with her family, Barb E., and her daughters are at home with her now.
These are all our very close friends and we pray that they will get some rest before we can visit with them once again.

*************

On a fun note!!

WI bowling was held Wednesday night with 20 some people to celebrate our Gail's birthday and to enjoy the fun Pizza party, even though the Pizza's arrived late, we do thank Connie for supplying them for us.. Everyone who came experienced a lot of laughs with her gag gifts and the sweet cakes that were brought in by Jodi and her daughter. Even the bowling went well with several new bowlers who showed us all a thing or two. Happy Birthday Gail and thanks for setting the bowling up for us. It has turned out to be very fun evening...

FYI

Well we made it through the week-end and when I looked out Saturday morning there were people strolling and chatting up and down the lane. A dozen or so people and 2 canines were walking the park for a wonderful exercise. Of course some of us just watched and cheered them on.
Had word that some went up to watch the shuttle take off
Friday morning. The experience was worth the trip and they are looking forward to the next lift off. Happy you were able to watch a piece of history.
Been watching and visiting with Ron S. lately as he is really feeling poorly. His son, Thomas, is with Ron and Eleanor all the time now. The medical field has been coming to assist the family in whatever is needed. Our prayers are with them and if you wish to visit with Eleanor, please call and find when a good time would be.
On another note....
Barb E. has been taken back to the hospital with some more eating problems. The Doctors have been ordering many tests to see if they can help her. The family is all with her as we know they would be if possible. Barb still has a goal in life to once more visit Vegas and our wish for her is to hurry and recover from this to live her dream. It is such a heartwarming site to see all the girls surrounding their mother with such love and the Village will continue to watch and send our prayers her way.
This week we only have Coffee hr. on Tues morning with Bingo in the evening and WI bowling on Wednesday evening. The group of bowlers will be celebrating Gail's birthday so we are excited for the evening of food and laughter.

Hole in one...

Vista Plantation was the place and Barry Stine was the winner.
Barry recorded a hole-in-one on the l6th hole while competing in the
Sunday Bandits. He used a 9-iron.
As wonderful as this is, his wife, Teresa did the same thing last year and
we weren't even aware of it.
Simply fantastic for both of them to come up on top of their game.
We are all proud of 2 of our outstanding Lakewood
Village residents.
We await for your next surprise...
Good Luck to the both of you...

Mother'sDay

Thank you Lakewood Village Social Club~~~~~~
The Mother's dessert hour was a beautiful success on the afternoon
when all mothers were honored.
Cakes, pies, and some extra goodies were set out for all who came
to celebrate a mother or two.
Your committee did such a fun, warm and pleasant rewarding
time for everyone who came. The 40 some Villagers were
pleased with the outcome of a sweet treat.
We wish to express our gratitude to Lakewood Village and their
very warm Social Club.
All Village residents are welcome to attend any of the social events that
are held here in our friendly Village.
We will be advised when our next event will occur.

Mother's Day tribute

When you need mom most, don't forget she's still part of you.
Your mother is always with you.
She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks.
She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well.
Your mother lives inside your laughter. She's crystallized in every tear drop....
She's the place you came from, your first home. She's the map you follow with every step that you take.
She's your first love and your first heartbreak...and nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, Not space..Not even death...will ever separate you from your mother...
You carry her inside of you.
*****************************
Your Mother is always with you....... This Sunday in our cool clubhouse at 3:00 pm, your social club will be hosting a dessert and coffee moment for you and your mother. Take the time and come to pay your tribute to all mothers. If your mother is longer with you, you may adopt one here in our Village...See you there Sunday....

It is never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is
up to you and no one else.....

Just F.Y.I.

The U.S. Census Bureau is back in our village trying to fill in the blanks for the addresses that a mailed Census form was not received.  This is not the Lakewood Village Census form that was turned in to the office staff.

The Census and Florida both need your input.  The biggest help is to answer the few questions the worker has to ask.  There are no immigration status, financial, or personal qustions on the form.  The main goal of the Census is to count people.  Each and every person making our Village thier home.

All they will ask is name, age, relationship to primary resident, sex, race, (hispanic or not), residence owned or rented, and if it is the primary residence, and for a name and telephone number for quality control.

All information is voluntary except for the name, age, and relationship to primary resident.   If all the info is completed during the first visit - no one else from the NRFU unit should have to bother your again.

Remember, our Census is mandated by law, it is how our Congressional Districts are redrawn, provides data for all sorts of funding opportunities for our county and state.

And best of all!!!  The personally identifying information is protected by law and will not be released for 72 years.  Only compiled data figures can be used for the next 7+ decades!

Help the workers get thier job done, information documented, and they will be done!

If you have any questions or concerns the Local Census Office is in Pt. St. Lucie and can be reached at (772) 361-6001.

Thank you and lets have a great summer!
