Last Post for 2011

Well the new year is almost here and we will finish up this year tomorrow.  Hope everyone has their own special plans to enter into 2012.
A small recap on this week:
The Lakewood Village Bridge Club held their final game Wednesday with their tables full and the winners are: Norma  with 2440,Erik with 2430,Lew with her 2220,Sharron with her 2010 and Buck rounds out the day with 1850.  Thanks  to Lew for the years scores and hope she has enjoyed her granddaughters with her this holiday.

The WI bowling group is still going strong and had many great games bowled.  Al H. came to visit and of course bowled with us.  He is now in his new home at the Isles and if you wish to contact him as he enjoys visits, give his daughter a jingle.  A couple of young bowlers joined us and they seem to have a wonderful time.  As usual we all awaited Don T. to come with Carole's surprise and it was heavenly.  Once again Thanks Carole for all your sweets this year.
***
This leaves us our upcoming Lakewood Village Ladies Tea party on the 14th of January and you only have one more week to purchase your tickets.  If you are planning on attending, please let one of the girls know so they can plan on the lunch items.  There are many prizes to be given to some lucky ladies.  There is also a very special guest speaker that will inform us on many important issues so try to come and enjoy the afternoon on Saturday January 14 at 2:00pm.

I believe that leaves us for another year and hope you have had a pleasant 2011.  Good luck in the year      2012....

Goodby 2011

King and Queen of Lakewood Village

We are coming to the end of another year here in Lakewood Village.  The time seems to just fly away any more or it's just that I'm getting older... Oh well a few memories still come to me...I surely miss seeing many of our old friends that had gone on to meet their loved ones and we are making new memories every day.
We will open the "blog".  It's pages are blank.  We are going to put words on them ourselves,  The Blog is called opportunity and it's first entry is New's Year's Day.
This is going to be a day to relax and enjoy our family and neighbors.

Let this coming year be better than all the others.  Vow to do some of the things we always wanted to do but couldn't find the time.  Call up a forgotten friend, drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories.  Vow not to make a promise we don't think we can keep.  Walk tall, and smile more.  We will look ten year's younger.  May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's resolutions.

The Veterans of Lakewood Village

We have a special year coming up as in 1997 The Lakewood Village Resident Owned became a corporation and it is still going strong.  Congratulations on coming into your 15th year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Our fallen angels
We here in Lakewood Village wish to take the time to wish all our readers a Merry Christmas and hope you and your loved ones will unite for a moment to thank those who are unable to enjoy these holidays.  Our Village has been active for many years and our thoughts are always with our friends and neighbors who make our lives complete.  Thank you for caring.....
If you can,, perhaps you would check on people who are unable to come outside and enjoy the wonderful weather and the beautiful lights that so many have put up this year.  You all should be congratulated.
Enjoy!!!!!
May you have a safe, happy, healthy holiday.

Children waiting for Santa

Santa and his helpers.

Santa came to visit the children in Lakewood Village and he was greeted by a whole clubhouse of happy children.  They were treated to pizza, cupcakes, cookies and drinks before Santa came in through the doors.  There were a lot of little giggles and everyone cheered the big lovable man in the red suit.  Thank you Santa for visiting us.

This week.

Information this week is that it has been a slow one.   The Bridge scores are in and they consist of:  phyllis 2340  next  Marg with 2260  Eric with 2090 and Rick  2070.  I think you will notice that Rick and Sharron D have arrived and they will be with us for several weeks before returning for his Doctors appt.  but plan on returning to spend some of the winter with us.  Good to see you.
One of our long time residents  Al. H. is in the hospital for tests and is a bit confused with feeling not very well.  We will keep you posted as much as Phyliss can let us know.
Coffee hour is still running as is Bocci practice so try to come over on Tuesdays to see what is happening.
We want to take a moment to thank those who put the Christmas decorations up in the clubhouse and outside  so that we might get into the Holiday spirit.  They look really nice this year..
A quick note!  You should all have your LADIES TEA PARTY  notice  by the end of the week-end.  If you have any questions please let the girls know and they will have the answers for you.

Once again take a stroll around our Village to see the beautiful lights.

For your information.

It has been pointed out to me that perhaps some of you here in our Village are unaware of the protocol in our Yard waste pick-up routine.
Waste Management is suppose to pick-up yard left overs on Wednesdays.  Sometimes it does not come but every other week but we should all be aware of the routine.  You must tie up in pick up bundles your brush so they can lift it on to their trucks.   They usually come before the recycle truck and therefore it is very early around 7-7:30 on Wednesday mornings.  If you don't have it out by then perhaps you can wait until next week.  Thanks June for pointing this out to our newer residents..
Just another reminder, if you have extra large items that they must pick up personally, you will want to call Harris for large pick-ups.  their number is 770-9620 and ask them to please come and remove these items.  In the past they have been very helpful and it helps to keep the Village yards looking bright and cheerier....
These are just a couple helpful reminders to keep our Village as clean and inviting as we possible can.

With everyone pitching in to help, it will make things so easy to bring more residents to visit with us once again.

December 7th, l941

This is the memorial of that terrible attack that came on December 7th, l941.
To those Veterans of era, whether you are gone from this earth or to glory or still here with us, God Bless You and thank you for your services to our country.
Every day that goes by in America is a better day because of you.  We will never forget the attack
on Pearl Harbor, the events of December 7th, l941, or the bravery of our military forces and the steely resolve of their families.
A day that will live in infamy forever.
It is good that we are able to look back and appreciate the life we now have because of these brave men and women.

One thing everyone in the world can do at the same time is grow older...and we are lucky!!!

Tis the Season

Hi    everyone!!!!!!!
Here in the Village we are getting ready for the Holiday Season.  Things are being decorated and we hear Christmas music being played from some of the homes.  We wait all year for this lovely and friendly season to arrive.
I know for a fact that the Village Christmas Angel is back in our mist.  Several have already been surprised anonymously with some type of unusual angel.  We had this angel several years ago and we kept trying to catch them but they were to quick.  Thank you !! whoever you are as this is a pleasant surprise.
Now I have some sad news this morning...A good friend lost her mate, Joe, on December 1st this year.  Virginia R. always came down from up north around this time with Joe Foster.  Joe and Virginia were always walking their dog who several years ago left them and the two of them continued to walk around the Village.  We are so sorry Virginia and we send our condolences from all of us.
Activities will continue this week unless otherwise noted.  Everyone seems quite busy and we are really enjoying this wonderful winter wonderland.... Have fun this week......

Reports for the week.

Monday night Bunco was once again cancelled.  Due to the upcoming holidays we are suspending Bunco until further notice. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause to anyone.
*****
Breakfast was served at coffee hour again this Tuesday and a few more are showing up for the delicious coffee and donuts.  Thanks to Pat and Bo.
***
Bocci was in full swing after they all had their coffee.  They are just practicing for the up coming season.
***
Bowling had a good group of bowlers for the evening even though several were missing.  There is a lot of high 5's going on.  The good  lip smacking treats from Carole T once again came with Don.  Thanks again Carole.

Bridge score were handed in by Lew after their session.  First place with a high score of 3230 went to Margaret D.  Right behind her with the score of 3200 went to Peggy.  Irene coming in next with the score of 2990. and then Harold came in with his 2670.  Sounds like a full house for Bridge this week.
Thanks Leween...

I haven't had confirmation on the clubhouse decorating committee this Saturday but was told a couple of weeks ago that this was the day they were going to do it.  If you want to help let someone know. I know that they will appreciate all the help they can get.  We have always had a beautifully decorated clubhouse that we were proud of.. Thanks to our Village people.
****
We hope you all have a pleasant week-end even though the weather has turned a little cooler. The sun is still shinning so it is very pretty outside.  Perhaps take a walk through our Village as some have already started to decorate their home and they are very nice.
