In Tamra's neighborhood

Tamra sent these photos to show how wet her neighborhood got during Fay's trip thru Vero Beach. These photos were taken just down off of Oslo and Tamra's question was: "I wonder how much snow this would equal?"
Looks as tho' the kids are all having fun on thier "rain day".

Labor Day

Labor Day-Unoffical end to summer
This is a celebration of value and dignity of work, and
its role in the American way of life.
``````
Labor day differs in every essential way from other holidays
of the year in any country. All other holidays are in a more or less
degree connected with conflicts and battles of man's prowess over man
of strife and disscord for greed and power, of glories achieved by one nation
over another. Labor day is devoted to no man, living or dead, to no sect,
race or nation.
~~~
Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic
end of summer.
We live where we have summer all year so we enjoy our freedom
so much more.
There is no planned celebrations in the Village but I know we
all will be enjoying this wonderful holiday.
~~~
Once again since 1966 the annual telethon of the Muscular Dystrophy
Association will be held this week-end with host, Jerry Lewis. We will
beable to watch with interest along with other activities.
If you plan out door fun, besure to watch the weather as we are
still in our rainy spell.
Enjoy your holiday!
Good News
Good News came in!!!
~~~
Our very own Virginia R. as of 9/16/08 made her
her goal of 3,000 miles which is about like swimming
across the country.
For those of you who do not know, she started keeping
track of her miles back on June 1, 1995 and has been
swimming away since then.
We are so proud of her and when she returns to our
Village we will congratulate her in person.
This is just an example of what you can do when you
make up your mind to do the almost impossible.
~~~
Way to go Girl.....
~~~
On another note! Gene Skrzpczak let us know that he
is doing just great after some surgery this summer.
Only several more chemo treaments and hopefully all
will be well. We will keep him and Nancy in our prayers
and look forward to when they can return to our Village.

Beautiful Lakewood Village.

Arrived home this afternoon and boy did this Village look Beautiful.
```
Went to Iowa to get our son who is moving down here to be with
his family. We are really excited about this move. He will be moving
into A30 in about a week. If you happen to see him say Hello even
though so many of you already know him.
~~
We were so sorry to be gone when you had such terrible weather here
and we were constantly watching the weather. Looks like we were all
spared even worse weather. Our hearts go out to Barefoot Bay and those
who are trying to cope with this freak of nature.
~~
Another note we finally got back Nettie from her trip to Minnesota and she
assures us that she had a wonderful time. Always something new with her
and she will be happy to tell you all about it.
~~~
My sincere thanks to Connie and Gail for all the work they did with the news
and making sure things were taken care during our absence. They truly are
amazing.
~~~
It was great to have your editor on-line once again. Thanks Diane for keeping
the information up to date.
~~~~~
I will try to update you on anything that comes in during the next few days so
with that in mind......Kindness is contagious.....Lets start an epidemic..

Lake in A Section

Many newcomers have probably never even seen the Lake full. It has definately been awhile since it has been so. This photo is also compliments of Connie. If others have photos of the Village - I would be glad to publish them for you!

Ice Cream Social

August 18Th at 1pm the Social Club held an Ice Cream Social. Approximately 24 of us ice cream lovers attended. We had the choice of Vanilla or Chocolate with a host of sundae toppings. There were a few of us that went back for a second dish. They were very kind to us and only charged us half price. We had excellent ice cream and the best of company.

We would like to thank the Social Club for sponsoring this event. We appreciate all your hours of planning and implementing of the activities.

It was summed up well by my Granddaughter. She said "Boy Nanny, it's really nice that they have all these fun parties just for us."

Thank you, Connie

From the Lakewood Office

Hi Diane,

Thank you so much. Please let everyone know that we have come out of this with no damage to any homes. We were without power on Tuesday from about 3:00 until about 6:30, but it was restored without incident.

There is much debris (pine needles, pine cones) in the roadways, but no trees down, and all roads are certainly passable. We are still getting some wind and rain (it's 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday), which are going to last until sometime late tonight/tomorrow morning, but nothing to worry about.

There was a huge amount of flooding in St. Lucie, Martin, and Okeechobee counties, and Barefoot Bay was hit by a tornado which destroyed at least 50 homes, but Indian River County/Vero Beach, and especially Lakewood Village were spared the worst of it.

If anyone wants to call, they are encouraged to do so, if it makes them feel better to talk to someone who is here. Our office closed at 1:00p.m. on Tuesday, but we are all back today and will be open from now on, no more closures I hope.

Again, thanks for doing this for us, it is a real big help to be able to get the word out. I'm going to send an e-mail to all who have left e-mail addresses also, but I bet the blog reaches more people.

Kryse

The Aftermath

I have emailed Kris at the office to see if there are any messages or updates since the storm. If anyone has any photos or comments or anything that you would like posted contact me at diane.beatty@sbcglobal.net and I will post all that I can. I am sure that all the Villagers that are out of the area would be interested.
I look forward to hearing from all of you!

The following is a small
recap of time past.
~
Take a stroll down
memory lane with me.
~
Mind you that these are only
a few that I am bringing to life once again.

These were all close and personal friends of older residents here in the Village. Each one had a great and humorous gift of life that we thoroughly enjoyed being a part of. Some were neighbors and most were dedicated Village people.

Take a good look at the photos and think back to when they were among us and making our Village lives so rich.
It was such a joy to have
known each and every one.

~

I know that there were many others but we will have to go there another time. The most recent ones are still fresh in our minds and hearts. We will always remember and feel their presence.
~
Hope you enjoyed this bit of Village History. What a wonderful heritage we have been given.
~
It is not what you gather
But what you scatter
that tells what kind
of life you have had.

Don't forget your Ice Cream Social

Anyone you know??

This couple was married in Davenport, Iowa.
They were the second one in their graduation class
to be married.
August 15, 1953
~
Some said it couldn't last as they were too young.
55 years later,
3 children, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and
they still have a wonderful relationship.
~
If you see them besure to tell them that you
recognize them and that they haven't changed
a bit.
~
Of course you will be stretching your imagination with
that statement.
~
Never frown, even when you are sad,
because you never know who is falling in love
with your smile.
~
Enjoy your day in the Village.
