New season

My goodness where did the year go?
Here it is almost December and Christmas is just around
the corner.
Last year at this time, things, good and bad, happened and
we will remember them all.
This year hopefully many good things will come to you and
your family.
Times have been very hard and cruel to some people and we
are so sad that we have lost some wonderful friends. Perhaps
we can take the time and reflect on some.
****
This month activities are planned and are going
to be in the Sentinel so watch for it soon. We should all have some
fun this season.
****
I have the Bridge scores in from Lew:
Peggy 2600
Ed 2370
Lew 2290
Bob 2220
The bridge group is planning a pot-luck in December for
their members and spouses so keep in touch with the
players for details.
***
If your group has something planned and would like
everyone to know what it is, please let me know and I
will try to get the word out.
~~~~~
Hope to see you at Bunco, Coffee, Bocci, Bingo in the next day.
Until then have a great kool day..
~~~~~
I've learned that every day, you should reach out and
touch someone. I hope I just did.

Happy Thanksgiving

This could be the last notice to wish you all a wonderful thanksgiving
this year.
Tomorrow everyone will be with family and friends to enjoy
a day of giving thanks for all the surplus blessings that we
receive all year long.
Thanksgiving Day in the United States is traditionally a
holiday to give thanks for the food collected at the end of
the harvest season.
Early thanksgivings took the form of a special church service,
rather than a feast, as is common now.
May you all enjoy this time with loved ones, be it here in our
Village or with them elsewhere.
***
Our thoughts and prayers are with a few friends and
neighbors that are a little under the weather.
Dick M. is still in the hospital and needs some special prayers
at this time. We don't have a lot of information on him but will
let you know when it becomes available. You will remember him as
our special guy who rode around our Village every morning.
My thoughts are with our own Barb E. as today is her birthday and
she will have a busy day. Good Luck Barb.
~~~~~
On a positive note, I've learned that, no matter what happens,
how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better
tomorrow.
And how was your week-end?
This is a holiday week coming up and we hope you
and your loved ones have some quality time planned.
****
In our prayers we have several of our residents that we
wish to acknowledge this week.
First of all I am told that Big Bob O. is back home and is
trying his best to enjoy his family.
WAY TO GO!!!
There are some that are just under the weather and
if you see them be sure to wish them good thoughts:
Ron S. Barb E., Rose L., Lou C., Doug Mc these are just
a few that comes to my mind.
I know that there are others that are having a trying
time during the upcoming holidays and we are
thinking of all our friends here in our Village.
****
There are still activities going on around the Village this
week so you might want to check them out.
****
The office has holiday hours this week so make sure
you check with them before Wednesday if you have a problem.
There are chapters in over 30 countries with
38,000 members and membership approaching
the MILLION mark.
It's all about the simple pleasure of playing again.
This is about accepting where we are in life and making
the most of it.
Rainy Veteran's Day
United States & Canada flags
**
Ernie H & Lou G. John F. & Rick D.
~~~~~~~
Under the threat of rain, the raising of the two flags went on
with everyone braving the instant downpour.
The singing was loud and clear as everyone thoroughly
enjoyed the moment.
Retiring to the clubhouse and Rick addressing the
ever attentive group, we gave thanks after Dolores led in
a prayer.
***
The food appeared on the table that John D and his
capable crew prepared. Everyone enjoyed the company
and the light lunch. We want to thank Social Club and it's
committee for this wonderful tribute to both our countries.

Thought for the week-end

Another week-end creeping upon us and what a relief
the weather has brought us.
The temperatures have dropped enough to open up the
windows and let the fresh air in. It has been an extremely
long summer and some of us welcome the cooler air.
We have the week-end open to enjoy at whatever you wish
and hope you do get out and have some fun.
***
Our Library, exercise room, shuffleboard, swimming pool, and
general walking or biking around our Village, can
give you an enormous lift. Take advantage of what is here.
****
Greet the dawn with enthusiasm and you may expect
satisfaction at sunset.

Veterans Day

Once again another year has advanced and we will take the
time to remember the sacrifices that men and women made in
defending our country.
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day in the eleventh month,
the world will rejoice and celebrate this memorable day.
In 1971 President Nixon declared it a federal holiday in November.
Americans will give thanks for peace on Veterans Day, charitable
activities will be distributing paper poppies made by disabled
veterans. This bright red wildflower became a symbol of World War 1
after a bloody battle in a field of poppies.
*****
We will have a service here in our Village on Wednesday
at 10:45 a.m. with the raising of both the American and Canadian
flags. We will be singing praises to both countries.
***
John D. will be taking any tattered flags and will dispose of them
the proper way. Please bring them with you
**
Afterwards there will be a light lunch served by Lakewood
Village volunteers.
**
Please take the time and come to the clubhouse for this
historical moment.
***
Sometimes the kindest act you can do in a day
is to listen to an old person.
We have history right here in our Village.

Sad News Today

I was just informed that Donald Richardson passed away this morning.  He has been ill and has been in Hospice Care.  His wife, Joyce, has been by his side during this time and our prayers have been with them both.  A great friend helped him much during his final hours.  Thanks Rosa.
He leaves 2 children and 4 grandchildren along with his sweetheart, Joyce.  Some of their family is here to be with Joyce.  Services, if any, are pending at this time.  Cards may be sent to Lot 30.
The Village grieves with John and Jessie C. who have been life long friends, as well as the many neighbors who will miss him.
Our hearts and prayers are with them all.

As usual the Kids party was all arranged by The Crossings Church from 90th Ave.
They always do such a fantastic job of making sure the children of Lakewood Village are entertained well.
The food was fixed and served by it's members.
There were prizes awarded to some really scary costumes.
Everyone came dressed for the occasion.
The Decorated clubhouse was full of all these little goblins and us big ones had a ball playing with them.
Once again we had a few Social Club members with us that provided the help with all these little ones.
The people of Lakewood Village wish to thank anyone who had a hand in making this week-end such a fun and entertaining one.
~~~~~~~
Now for the big ones....
Who wouldn't want to squeeze her?
Mr. Greeter
The Adult Halloween party produced some really wonderful costumes and certainly a lot of laughs.  The clubhouse was decorated in the fall Halloween colors and even the windows were covered. It was DARK.  Sherry W., President of your Social Club welcomed everyone and presented Jessie C who proceeded with the program.
***
The potluck buffet was the entire middle of the room and filled with all kinds of inventive foods for us to try. Thanks everyone for bringing your favorite dishes.
**
Best costumes prizes were awarded and in the end everyone was given a prize to take home. We were all pleased to be a part of this fun.
**
The 50/50 was drawn and the prize was awarded to John D. We know he will put it to good use.
***
The music was provided by our own Sherry M. and her good friend. They made a cute couple. Thanks guys for going out of your way for us. We really do appreciate it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our prayers are with the Richardson family at this moment.
Donald is not doing very well and we wish the family some peace in the next few days.
